Angels & Airwaves - I-Empire.
Year 2007
Music Genre: Instrumental Rock
I-Empire is the second album to come out of the epic and very talented phenomenon that is Angels & Airwaves. Back this time stronger, better and more meaningful than before. This time giving the still very 'Spacey' feel to the songs but a more down to earth approach. The first single released earlier this year (2008) was entitled 'Everything's Magic' Also 'Secret Crowds' and 'Breathe' have been released as singles, the album sold 66,000 copies in the first week of being released and debut at No.9 on the Billboard 200 chart. Songs to look out for on the album are: Breathe: Is the ultimate AVA power ballard it is a really softly played love song with really meaningful lyrics like: 'A blue-black shade of love, sent from above., My hands are tied, two worlds alone, and this I know. Your breaths like wine, and just like clouds, my skin crawls. It's so divine, the sky it glows with fields of light.' Full of brilliant vocals and a very mellow yet effective sound. It is one of the best songs off the album and one of the best Angels & Airwaves have written. Love Like Rockets: Starts off with distorted voices and again bringing out real upbeat music and a very spacy and epic feel giving the impression that love starts off and moves like a rocket. With a Spark that ignights and like a rocket explodes and moves fast and is out of this world. Some of the lyrics that stand out in the song are: 'The sun would set in the night time sky, The stars they'd cast a glow upon my eyes The art its self a burning ball of light, Yeah, Its like, Our first love was ignited late that night.' Secret Crowds: Starts off with some amazing lyrics such as: 'If I Had My Own World, I'd Build You An Empire' instantly implying that this song again is a love ballard where this person feels so strongly about their loved one that they wish that they could build them an empire, trying to portray how important and loved that person is. The has a variety of very meaningful lyrics and the music sounds stunning, bringing the heavier music at the right parts of the song. It has the same basic sound of a previous AVA song 'The War' but is tons better. True Love: The only song on the album that has a long intro but again once you pass that it kicks in to an incredible song with again very meaningful and heart warming lyrics, talking about how true love is and how it feels. Once again executing some very powerful and meaningful lyrics such as: 'The snow has come down on top of everything, The town is alive and well without you, The lights they peer out of the leafless trees And you wont be alone, I am beside you.' It's again one of the most amazing songs AVA has ever done and is one of the best off this album. Other songs to look out on the album: Everything's Magic Sirens Heaven Basically if you loved AVA's first album 'We Don't Need To Whisper' then you are going to love I-Empire, it's faster, more upbeat, it has much better songs, less time wasted on long intro's, better guitaring and has an overall better sound. Making it not only more popular than the first album, but the band actually got more respect and even more when front man Tom Delonge stopped preaching on stage and let the songs do the talking.
