Band Info: Feeder are a Welsh rock band formed in Newport, South Wales during 1992 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Grant Nicholas, and drummer Jon Lee. Bassist Taka Hirose later joined after advertising in Loot magazine. They have also been accompanied by touring members Matt Sime (keyboards; 2000–2002), Dean Tidey (guitar, backing vocals; 1998–present) and Dean Devall (keyboards, backing vocals; 2008-present). Feeder have charted 24 UK top 75 singles, and eight UK top 75 albums, with six of those albums making the top 10 between 1999 and 2008,[1] while their music has been inspired by a wide variety of artists and styles, including the Pixies and The Smashing Pumpkins. For most of their recording career, the band have worked with Gil Norton on production duties. Feeder garnered media attention for their third album, Echo Park (2001), and its first single "Buck Rogers". The following year in January 2002, Jon Lee committed suicide in his Miami home, leading the band to keep a low profile for the rest of the year, before recording their fourth studio album Comfort in Sound, in which former Skunk Anansie and Little Angels member Mark Richardson helped out on drum duties. The album was lyrically and musically influenced by the band's reactions to Jon's passing. Comfort in Sound is Feeder's most successful release to date, selling over 436,000 copies in the United Kingdom, with a total of over one and a half million studio albums sold in the UK. Feeder have won two Kerrang! Awards in 2001 and 2003 for "Best British Live Act" and "Best British Band". In 2006 they were named as one of the most successful UK chart acts of all time, by Guinness Book of British Hit Singles & Albums. Review: Feeder kicked the show off with the first single to be released from their new album ‘Silent Cry’ was ‘We Are The People,’ a real power ballard to really kick things off and really getting the crowd pumped for one of the most amazing shows the UEA has possibly ever seen, the staged had never looked more incredible with the lights glowing the right colours to emphasize the atmosphere to what song they were playing and the one most incredible thing, also a first for the LCR was the amazing video boards they had hanging from the back of the stage throwing out some amazing special effects from a cosmic style background to a massive eagle flying really adding to the overall effect and entirety of the show. The atmosphere in the UEA when some of Feeders more popular songs like ‘Buck Rogers’ was just off the scale, the crowd were really getting into it jumping up and down and throwing the lyrics back to the band just as powerful as they were being sung. The highlight of the show had to have been the encore after Feeder had gone offstage after their set, the crowd were so pumped and ready for more that they came back to play four more songs really prolonging the song everybody had been waiting for since the beginning of the night….’Just A Day’ Feeders most popular song and one that really sent the band rocketing into the charts, it sounded so powerful live and the UEA had never felt so alive, you could literally feel the energy in the room and how much of a real ‘feel good’ vibe it gave off to everyone. Front man Grant Nicholas was just so full of energy all the way through the show getting the crowd pumped, singing and clapping along to the songs. It has ultimately been one of the best shows the UEA has ever seen and Feeder certainly proved that even though they have been going for 16 years they have never looked, sounded or preformed better. Rock-Reviews Rating: 9/10.
