HIM - Screamworks: Love & Theory In Practice.
Year: 2010
Music Genre: Love Metal
Screamworks: Love & Theory In Practice is the seventh studio album from the ‘Love Metal’ Finnish rockers HIM (His Infernal Majesty). The album goes back to it’s roots bringing songs back up to the fast paced styles from previous album ‘Razozorblade Romance’ but also adding more of the darkness & snyth styles to the music from ‘Dark Light’. The band really made progress from the previous album ‘Venus Doom’ adding more catchier songs to the playlist and really upping the anti on the rytham & guitaring of the album providing some amazing soloing from guitarist Daniel Lioneye. Screamworks: Love & Theory In Practice features the bands latest two singles ‘Heartkiller’ & ‘Like St Valentine’ providing two really great songs with allot of the emotion the band is renowned for but also keeping the dark gothic sound with lead singer Ville Valo’s voice adding the tone of the songs, but again like ‘Dark Light’ the album has many hidden gems such as ‘Love, The Hardest Way’ giving some roar emotion & fast paced rock the band are less famous for making it a definite hit to add to the album. Also unlike previous albums HIM have come out with, the album shows real consistency in both the songs & music, bringing catchy songs & not containing many of the dull slow songs they had once produce. In terms of music production the songs are not as crisp as they have been but still giving it enough to give the tracks high re-listening value & will have you hitting the replay button as the album makes you want to listen again & again. HIM have definitely made real improvement from their previous steps with ‘Venus Doom’ and although the album is not substantially different from previous records, it keeps in style with what the band are famous for & experimenting slightly but lightening up the music & making the lyrics more commercial but definitely proving to work well. Screamworks: Love & Theory In Practice is a definite buy for fans of the bands previous work & for those who have never given them a chance, an opportunity to change your mind. Now the band have again set the standards for their music & will be interesting to see if the strength of the band has returned now the lead singer is sober & once again focused. 8/10
