Kerrang - Relentless Tour
Year: 2009
Music Genre: Screamo/Metal
Event Info: The Kerrang and Relentless tour 2009 featuring 5 bands from around the world touring 15 dates in various venues around the UK, bands featured this year are as follows: In Case Of Fire Black Tide Bring Me The Horizon Dir En Grey Mindless Self Indulgence Review: The first band to kick off the Kerrang Tour were; ‘In case Of Fire’ which started the evening with a real explosion getting the crowd pumped, full of lots of energy and some powerful songs with plenty of emotion really showing the crowd who they were and what they were about and ultimately giving a really good impression after their set with the whole of the UEA cheering – second to hit the stage was a band called ‘Black Tide’ giving us the impressions of an early Dragon Force with similarities to the endless solos and vocals which by the end of their set became very droning to hear but that said the crowd still managed to have time to mosh and head bang before the next and what was probably the most anticipated band of the evening ‘Bring Me The Horizon’ really letting themselves be heard with some thunderous heavy music really giving a very aggressive feel to the atmosphere with some of their heavier songs such as: Chelsea Smile and The Comedown but although these guys certainly made an impression of the crowd with their songs it was very hard to actually hear what they were singing about which really became disappointing. Next to come on were a very unusual bands all the way from Japan who went by the name of ‘Dir En Grey’ giving a real eerie vibe to the heavy metal music they were playing out again getting the crowd really going with some very chilling vocals from front man Kyo, but for a band that was renown for having great stage presence, their performance wasn't particularly anything special, with no interaction with the crowd and a set that felt like it went on forever. Although for the earlier acts of the evening the sound quality wasn't too good giving too much bass in which you couldn't hear what the bands were singing, it instantly changed when Mindless self Indulgence came on and literally erupting the UEA to it’s rafters with excitement and really getting the crowd jumping up and down and having a really good time. Front man Jimmy Urine was really on top form dancing around and shouting out to the crowd really hyping both them and himself off especially when they played one of their most popular and well known songs ‘Never Wanted To Dance’ also at one point the band brought various members on to the stage to help him sing his songs. Even though MSI were missing bassist Lin-Z they certainly pulled off and amazing show and definitely making up for the poorer acts which had appeared on before them and still making it a really good evening and one to remember. Rock-Reviews Rating: 4.5/10.
