Simple Plan - Simple Plan
Year 2008
Music Genre: Alternative & Punk
Review: Simple Plan is the latest album to come out of the five piece pop-punk band ‘Simple Plan’, this time the band with their more ‘grown up sound’ moves more in to the commercial scene with the album though doing this was probably the best thing for the band as it certainly shot them into the charts with their first hit off the album: ‘When I’m Gone’. When I’m Gone: was the first single to be released off the album, it kicks off with a very different sound to the familiarity which the band are known for but works really well producing a very upbeat, catchy and very meaningful song, singing about love and loss, with some amazing lines such as: ‘I'm gonna leave this a hole behind me, gonna take what's mine tonight. Because every wasted day becomes a wasted chance. You're gonna wake up feeling sorry, because life wont wait, I guess it's up to you.’ This song is one of the most popular and catchiest songs off the album. Take My Hand: Kicks off with such roar velocity and power, really kicking in as soon as it stars and showing that Simple Plan have moved the bar up a notch, It’s a song about taking chances, being spontaneous and not looking at the past or future, just the here and now. This song is one of the best off the album with really catchy, lyrics, some brilliant guitaring and a real ‘Feel Good’ song. Your Love Is A Lie: was the second single to be released off the album, this time the band really produces a mellow, yet very strong lyrically with lines such as: ‘I fall asleep by the telephone, It's 2 O'clock and I'm waiting up alone, tell me where have you been? I found a note with another name, You blow a kiss, but it just don't feel the same, cause I can feel that you're gone.’ Which shows the song is about a guy being cheated on, how that everything with is partner dosen’t feel right anymore and though his partner doesn’t know, he can tell that she is having an affair. I Can Wait Forever: Is possibly one of the best songs Simple Plan have ever written, the song sings about the thoughts of a person who has been separated from their partner and how everything this person does reminds them of their partner and how much it hurts to be apart from them. The song is just beautifully written, full of such emotion and heart within the lyrics such as: Another day without you with me Is like a blade that cuts right through me, but I can wait, I can wait forever, when you, call my heart stops beating, when you're gone it wont stop bleeding, but I can wait, I can wait forever. The song provides such emotion and has such a power ballard feel to it, with some incredibly guitaring from the band and a lovely piano piece at the end. Holding On: Is again just another beautifully written song, straight from the heart with some incredibly power musically and lyrically, the song almost resembles the power and feeling of ‘Angels And Airwaves’ especially with the intro to the song which can be mistaken for an ‘Angels And Airwaves’ song but still has it own originality with the lyrics. Again this song sings about being apart from a loved one and how a letter keeps this person full of hope. No Love: Is a song full of hope, it tells the story of how life can be so depressing and dull, how everything can get into a routine of being stuck in the same nightmare. It has a message that shows that instead of being stuck, get out of the habit, instead of getting depressed over it, do something about it. Again this song is a fantastically written song, producing such an incredible statement and hope for anyone in that situation. Other songs to look out for on the album are: The End Save You My Generation Ultimately this album was one of the highlights of 2008. It really is a masterpiece of musical genius, nailing the real meaning of rock music, beautifully written, produced, full of so much possitivity, power and adding the one thing that makes this one of the best albums of 2008….it’s heart. Sound mix: 9/10 Likability: 9/10 Re listen value: 9/10 Rock-Reviews rating: 9/10.
