Rock-Reviews Top 10 Cover Songs Of The 21st Century
Year: 2000 - 2010
Music Genre: Rock
After hours of extensive research over the past 10 years of cover songs that have been in the music industry we decided we would have to narrow the catalogue down firstly to Rock music and sub genres of that type (punk, emo, metal etc...) We then again due to the list still being so dramatic to narrow it down to one song per artist as some bands have made more than one cover. We have it all listed in our top ten from the Finnish Rockers HIM to the Pop Rockers Electric 6, so sit back, relax and enjoy Rock-Reviews.co.uk Top 10 Cover Songs of The 21st Century..... 10. Behind Blue Eyes – The Who, Covered By Limp Bizkit. This fantastic cover is featured off the 2003 horror Gothika, played and sung by lead singer Fred Durst on acoustic guitar which provides the epic and heartache melody for this cover of such a beautiful song. The song is very slow paced but for someone who is renowned for not overly singing as to more rapping in the bands own material which really comes across well throughout this song and has deserved a slot in the top 10 for that reason. 9. Tainted Love – Soft Cell, Covered By Marilyn Manson Covered for the film ‘Not Another Teen Movie’ the Goth king himself covered Soft Cell’s pop record and turned it into a sexy, dark and raunchy song with the disturbed video to coincide. The song is very well covered proving that you can turn a crap song into a masterpiece. 8. Manic Monday - The Bangles, Covered By Relient K This cover features on the famous ‘ Punk Goes’ 80’s collection from Fearless Records, this song is a fantastic upbeat, pop punk cover which will really get you up and dancing to an old 80’s classic revamped, refreshed and very much alive. Full on energy and fun and making this an instant cover classic. 7. Beat It – Michael Jackson, Covered By Fall Out Boy Released in 2008 this massive cover of MJ’s Beat It was instantly a hit with fans around the world, it always appears that when covering a song artists really do well on it or make it more of a success than the original but it feels as though Fall Out Boy with the help of John Mayer made this song come alive again, bringing a catchy beat to create a well preformed cover with a great solo in the middle. 6. Solitary Man – Neil Diamond, Covered By HIM Finnish Rockers His Infernal Majesty (HIM) cover one of the most inspiring artists of the music generation Neil Diamond, making it more darker and gothic than the original, adding in the fast paced music, making this a definite to check out. The band does an amazing job at bringing this classic back to life and deserves it’s place in our top 10. 5. Umbrella, Rihanna, Covered By All Time Low The Baltimore, Maryland 4 piece All Time Low shows that you can take one of the most irritating songs from 2007 and turn it into a upbeat and addictive song to listen to. The band brings a fresh new move to their cover of Umbrella simply by adding guitars to the mix. It will definitely have you dancing around in your pants on a Saturday afternoon! 4. Men In Black – Will Smith, Covered By Forever The Sickest Kids MIB Is back with this punked up kick ass rock cover of the Men In Black song from the 1997 hit movie. The song this time takes a twist as instead of having a mellow sturdy beat, the Forever The Sickest boys plug in their guitars and defiantly reignite this catchy classic adding all the synth effects and rapping that the song originally had. 3. Complicated (Constipated) Avril Lavigne, Covered By Weird Al Yankovick Rock is renowned for being fun and the reason this song is in the top 3 is because it’s exactly that. Although technically it’s not a cover (who’s keeping score?) it wins our hearts for its hilariously rewritten lyrics about a depressed individual who has everything going wrong for him and will definitely have you singing along and hitting the repeat button multiple times, for those who have heard this you will agree this song is addictive! If you haven’t heard it, it’s well worth a listen on those gloomy days. 2. Boys Of The Summer – Don Henley, Covered By The Ataris Admittedly two great covers came out from this song as DJ Sammy’s & The Ataris because this is a rock list (although we did not believe it was any better) we had to go with The Ataris, they take an amazing lyrical song and turn it into a real power summer ballard and make it their own, which will definitely have your dad playing in his car with the top down, wind blowing though his ‘thinning hair’ singing along. Injected with real rock and roll fuel this is definitely one of the most amazing covers of the 21st century. 1. Under Pressure, Queen, Covered By The Used & My Chemical Romance. To make our top spot the song had to be something special, something full of heart, talent & performance, after hours of thinking and debating we had to go with The Used & My Chemical Romances cover of Under Pressure, as this song has been renown for awful pop and we won’t mention an horrific (rap) covers, we came across a real gem, the song was created for the tsunami relief back in 2005 and has both front men singing and both bands featuring in the song and video, it just shows that with hard work and talent an amazing cover can be created. Ultimately giving this the number one place on our list.
